What A Weekend!!

To sum it up...there was NEVER a dull moment! I picked Josie and Tess up in Russellville at 5:00 on Friday afternoon and we began the trip home to Grandma's house (sounds cliche doesn't it?) I was kept very well entertained for the entire ride home. Here are some of the commentary from the ride home:
1. First and foremost, a call was made to Granny from the girls requesting mashed potatoes and green beans be on the menu for supper...In case you don't know, my Granny's mashed potatoes are probably the best in the world..so they are pretty much always requested (and coveted)
2. Josie told me all about Winn Dixie..They read the book and watched the movie in her classroom.
3. Tess then informed me off ALL the movies she had watched lately...
4. Tess practiced ALL of her cheers in the backseat...Good thing she is a small girl or else she would have tipped the car over...I never knew there could be so much movement in the confines of a seatbelt!
5. Tess said that when she grows up that her and her friend Kara are going to start a band and that she (Tess) is going to sing the song that Kara wrote...She proceeds to sing the song and to which Josie replies, "Well, I give you an F"...Try and figure out how to handle that comment when you are trying to not laugh, keep both hands and eyes on the road, AND keep the peace in the backseat!! Not easy!
6. Both girls know all the words to EVERY Taylor Swift song as well as Daniel Powters "Bad Day" and the louder the radio gets, the louder they get!
7. I asked Tess what she wanted for her birthday. She replied, "I don't care actually...as long as it's not a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich or a reese cups chap stick..That might make me sick" (She is highly allergic to peanut butter)
8. I asked Josie what she wanted for her birthday which is coming up. She replied, "A horse"..When asked where she would put it, "in her room" was her response..And then when I asked her what her mother would have to say about a horse in her bedroom, she got me again when she said, "She'd say don't let it poop in the floor"...
Once home, Granny of course had supper cooked! And yes, there were mashed potatoes (She knows how to keep the peace as well!) After supper, we sat down to relax..I had packed lots of scrap-booking odds and ends so that if the girls wanted to color, etc they would have plenty of stuff to choose from..I also brought a set of Dominos. When I was little, I remember that my Papa was the one who taught me and my sister Rachel how to play..So when Josie and I got them out, I told her who had taught me how to play...Guess what happens next? Josie, Tess, Papa, and myself end up at the kitchen table so that he can teach two more grandchildren the rules of the game..kind of a sentimental moment I guess...until Tess (she's 8) beat us all and left me and Papa wanted to concede defeat..Half the time, she didn't even know she had made points..I think that just made it worse for our pride when she scored 20 points! She also made a point to show us EVERY cheer she knew and even some dance routines she had made up...I have never seen my Grandfather's eyes get as big as they were that night...I even saw things I had never seen before...we'll leave it at that..
I also packed lots of movies..Josie and I shared the back bedroom both nights and fell alseep to Cinderella and Happy Feet, respectively..Josie didn't actually make it much farther than the opening credits before she had passed out...

Saturday was Tess's birthday party from her family. We took lots of pictures and I videoed segments on my phone to email to their daddy...Josie ended up with Rachel's old cowboy hat and a western shirt that looked beautiful on her as well as fit her just right.
After the party, we headed out to watch Sam and his new roping horse work! They are really amazing to watch and several people commented on how well he is getting along with his new horse (Saturday was only the 3rd time he had roped off of him)..Afterwards, Josie got to ride one of Sam's horses by herself and she was thrilled. Tess also
rode but with Rachel leading.Tess got to spend the night with one her Calico friends and Josie and I stayed at Grandma's to watch tv and hang out with Joe...
Sunday we all went to church, ate dinner, talked to Uncle Steve, and then Granny and Papa took the girls back to meet their mother in Dardenelle. I have a test in Pharmacology tomorrow (I know I am procrastinating by typing this...everyone needs a break!) Everyone made it back safe and sound!
So as I sit here and type (and procrastinate), I am already missing my girls and their hugs, and their quick wit...they have homecoming next weekend but I am already planning a trip to get thim again the next weekend...Life is good when you get to spend it with the people you love the very most...and who give really good hugs!
